Family Voucher Program

The family voucher is utilized when a donor does not have someone in immediate need of a kidney transplant (expects to need a transplant within one year), but wants to help others in need of a transplant by donating their kidney while still looking out for their family’s potential future kidney transplant needs. The family voucher allows for up to five family members to receive vouchers. Family members may include spouses, biological or legal offspring, parents, and siblings. Once the first voucher holder is activated to receive a kidney, all other vouchers related to that donor become void and cannot be redeemed. All voucher holders are required to complete a cheek swab DNA test (for future identification purposes) and a kidney function screening test after the voucher donor donates, as well as every five years, while the voucher is active.

Remote Workup & Donation

Many kidney donors must travel long distances to their recipient’s transplant center, first for the donor workup and later for the donor surgery. Not only is this a major inconvenience for the donor but it is painful and unsafe for donors to travel immediately after surgery. As a result, many donors must stay at hotels in distant cities following kidney donation to allow for appropriate recovery before they travel home. These extended hotel stays are costly and separate the donor from their family and support network when that support is needed the most. Donor Care Network Centers of Excellence provide remote donor workups (so donors do not need to travel to the recipient center for the workup) and can safely ship kidneys between centers (the way it is done in kidney swaps), eliminating the need for remote donors to travel if they are near a Donor Care Network Center of Excellence.

Easy Screening & Intake

Your time is valuable, so we make the screening and medical history collection process as easy and convenient as possible. Potential donors can determine within five minutes if they are medically qualified to donate and which centers will accept them as donor candidates. After the screening, the Donor Care Network collects a full medical history using our convenient online system and allows all pre-workup lab testing to be performed at a local lab at no cost to the potential kidney donor.

Donor Satisfaction Survey

A donor satisfaction survey makes it easy for donors to provide feedback throughout the donation process so that the centers can quickly correct any process that needs improvement. The donor satisfaction survey also gives center leadership a donor’s perspective on the performance of the transplant organization. The survey is delivered to the donor via email upon completion of the following key steps in the donation process.

  • Workup
  • Pre-op testing
  • Three days after surgery
  • 30 days after surgery

The survey is designed to take less than five minutes to complete. The results of the surveys are aggregated and shared with center leadership
